I’ve been reading the Bible for around six or seven months. Starting by Genesis, I intend to read all the way to the Book of Revelation. I’m about to finish the Book of Judges and it amazes me how contemporary it feels, depicting such absurd acts rooted in the moral decay of Israel at that time.

There are lots of contradictory, absurd events going on in politics and society in general. Morality has become subjective and has ceased to be a force for social cohesion. Many agree we are living through a period of social decay, as many have before us. Interestingly, as far as I understand, it had never happened everywhere at once as it appears to be happening right now. The Book of Judges emphasizes this: “In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as they saw fit”. Does that sound familiar?

I know some Christians still debate whether the Old Testament applies to today’s faith and world. For me, the answer is pretty clear. Jesus Christ said: “Do not think I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished”.

But to me the ultimate statement is this: “If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me.”. Considering that the veil of the temple was torn in two when Jesus died, I find it hard, as a Christian, not to see him throughout the Pentateuch.

Beyond all of the above, it’s also interesting to notice how Leviticus functions just like an internal control system, and how it ties into methodologies such as COSO. Not to mention all the leadership and financial principles to be learned in just the first seven biblical books. Many of these lessons have been translated and blended with modern entrepreneurial wisdom; however, you will find them pure in the Bible, and you can be sure they work since they have proved solid enough to survive time and thrive through any crisis.

What do you think? Have you ever seen the Bible in this light?
